A belt can look intact while glazed, bottomed in a worn pulley or contaminated by oil. Check tension by the manufacturer’s method and inspect belt dust, cracks, fraying and pulley alignment. High-output alternators may need a multi-rib belt system and engineered belt loading.
Inspect hoses along their full length, including hidden bends and points beneath clamps. Look for swelling, hardening, cracking, chafe, oil attack and soft spots. Wet-exhaust hose needs special attention because internal delamination may not be obvious outside.
Clamps must suit the hose, fitting and environment. More clamps do not fix an undersized tail, damaged hose or inaccessible seacock. At underwater and critical exhaust connections, follow the applicable installation standard and manufacturer requirements.
Engine mounts should be free of oil contamination, cracks, separation and severe compression. Verify fasteners, locknuts and beds. Changing one mount can upset load sharing and alignment, so replacement is often assessed as a set followed by alignment checks.
Date-code or label installed hoses and belts where practical. Keep an inventory of exact dimensions and part numbers so remote replacements do not depend on a faded marking.
